The Wolf Among Us Characters

Fabletown is a apartment building full of exiled fairy-tale characters pretending to be ordinary New Yorkers. That premise gives The Wolf Among Us one of the densest casts in Telltale's catalogue: a sheriff, a deputy mayor, a club owner, a butcher, a pig, a talking fish and a bogeyman in a purple suit, all keeping the same secret.

This page lists the characters who matter to the case, their folkloric origin, and what they do in the story. Ending details are kept out until the final section.

The Fabletown office

Bigby Wolf is the player character: the Big Bad Wolf, reformed into a sheriff who works the cases nobody else wants. His arc is about whether a monster can choose to be something else, and the game lets you play him as restrained, brutal or somewhere in between. Adam Harrington voices him with a permanent edge of restraint.

Snow White is the deputy mayor and the closest thing the game has to a moral compass. She believes in Fabletown's institutions, and her approval is the reward most players chase. Erin Yvette's performance makes her more than a love interest; she is the person who decides whether Bigby is allowed to keep his badge.

Ichabod Crane is the mayor, and the case exposes him as corrupt, cowardly and compromised. He is not the killer, but he is the reason the killer operates freely.

Bluebeard is the prosecutor, a smug functionary who exists to show how Fabletown's justice system protects the wrong people.

The Puddin' n Pie

Georgie Porgie runs the club where Faith worked. He is charming, self-pitying and violent, and his confession in the finale is the plot's last piece.

Nerissa works at the club and becomes Bigby's most important witness. Her scenes read differently on a second playthrough, once you know what she is hiding.

Vivian is Georgie's partner and the story's most disturbing image: a woman whose ribbon holds her head on. Her fate explains the glamour trade.

Holly tends the Trip Trap bar and is Lily's sister. Her grief is the emotional centre of the middle episodes.

Lily is the second victim, and the case's connection between the club and the Crooked Man's operation.

The Woodlands residents

Mr. Toad lives in the building with his son TJ. He is the game's best comic character and its most human: a father trying to keep his kid out of Fabletown's politics.

Colin is one of the three little pigs, now a chain-smoking lodger in Bigby's apartment. He comments on your choices and provides the only domestic texture in the season.

Beast and Beauty are a married couple in trouble. Beast's temper and Beauty's frustration give the supporting cast its soap-opera layer.

Bufkin is the librarian, a flying monkey with a drinking problem and one very funny scene.

Flycatcher is the janitor, a gentle presence who becomes more important in the finale's background.

The Woodsman is the first suspect: a drunk with a bloody ribbon in his room and a grudge against Bigby.

The Crooked Man's operation

The Crooked Man is the villain: a well-dressed businessman running a protection racket on desperate fables. He is less a monster than a landlord, which is what makes him effective.

Bloody Mary is his enforcer, and the game's breakout character. She is cheerful, unkillable and entirely without ideology — she enjoys the work.

Tweedledee and Dum are the henchmen. Dee is the talker, Dum is the muscle, and the choice to kill or spare Dum is one of the season's few visible branches.

Aunty Greenleaf supplies the glamour that lets fables hide in plain sight. She is a clue more than a character, but her magic tree matters in episode three.

Jersey Devil is a minor informant, useful for atmosphere and one conversation.

Who dies, and when

Spoiler-light: the case opens with a death, and the body count rises through the season. Faith and Lily are the two victims whose murders drive the plot; Johann is found dead in the first episode; several antagonists die in the finale depending on your choices. The endings guide covers who survives.

Voice cast

The remaster keeps the original performances. Confirmed principals include Adam Harrington as Bigby Wolf, Erin Yvette as Snow White and Chuck Kourouklis as Mr. Toad. The rest of the cast is credited in the bonus content's interviews, which are worth watching if you want to hear how the actors approached the material.

The remaster does not re-record dialogue, so if you played the 2013 release, the voices will be exactly as you remember.
